Welcome to the MExT Multihull Cup 2008 Website

The Ostend Sailing & Racing Club is proud to host the 2008 Open Belgian Long Distance Championships for Formula 18 and C1 (Rating 104) catamarans. The MExT Multihull Cup is a long distance race for Formula 18 and C1 beach catamarans. It is the only catamaran race in the Benelux that is spread over 2 races in 2 days in which the ranking is determined by the cumulated time of both races. It is a perfect test for seamanship, good tactical insights, teamwork, endurance as well as boat handling and tuning. As a result, the winner is a true all-round champion.

Team Bosser/Gramme win the MExT Multihull Cup 2008

The Team Thierry Bosser/Alain Gramme have won the 2008 edition of the MExT Multihull Cup. After 3 hours, 58 minutes and 37 seconds of sailing they had a 37 second advance on the second team, last year's winner Emmanuel Boulogne with Tanguy Kervyn. Luc Hennebel & Marc Vanden Haute took third place at 5 minutes and 2 seconds from the winners.

The race didn't start too well for Bosser/Gramme as they only arrived fifth at the first mark of the race. The upwind leg from Ostend towards Nieuwpoort allowed them to move up to second place behind Boulogne/Tanguy who led from the start. The leg from Nieuwpoort to Blankenberge was again a difficult one as the wind was very strong with variable directions. This required them to keep concentrated all the way. Bosser/Gramme began the last lap from Blankenberge to Ostend in third place with more than 4 minutes behind the leaders Boulogne/Tanguy.
